The Cultural Triangle & Highlands motorcycle tour, is an adventure that takes you through Sri Lanka’s most iconic landscapes, blending exhilarating motorcycle rides with rich culture and breathtaking scenery. From ancient cities to misty mountains, each day offers a perfect mix of history, nature, and thrilling roads.
Your journey begins in Negombo, where you’ll meet the team over a welcome dinner by the beach. The first ride takes you to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s ancient capital, followed by a wildlife safari in Wilpattu National Park, home to elephants, leopards, and sloth bears.
Exploring the Cultural Triangle, you’ll visit the Avukana Buddha Statue and Dambulla Cave Temple, before tackling the legendary Sigiriya Rock Fortress. The ride continues to Polonnaruwa, where the ruins of palaces and Gal Vihara’s rock-carved Buddhas showcase the island’s glorious past.
Heading south, you traverse Wasgamuwa National Park and conquer the Knuckles Mountain Range, a UNESCO-listed wonder of misty peaks and winding roads. In Kandy, a visit to the Temple of the Tooth Relic and dinner in the city complete the day.
The ride intensifies with the famous 18 Bends and an ascent to Nuwara Eliya, a colonial-era town surrounded by tea plantations and lakes. The final stretch winds through rubber estates and bustling villages, descending toward Colombo, where you’ll relax at the historic Galle Face Hotel before a special farewell dinner.

Itinerary
Please note that distances and durations are approximate and do not account for breaks or guided tours of sites, parks, and monuments, only the actual riding time.
Day 1 - Negombo
Our representative will greet you in the airport lobby and arrange your transfer to a beachfront hotel conveniently close to the airport. In the evening, meet your fellow riders and the team for a briefing over drinks, followed by a welcome dinner to kick off your adventure.
Day 2 - Anuradhapura
We kick off the adventure with an early ride on our first day. Today is all about getting comfortable with your bike, the road, and the unique rhythm of Sri Lankan traffic—Negombo’s lively streets offering the perfect introduction. By afternoon, we arrive near the ancient capital of Anuradhapura, close to Wilpattu National Park. After a light lunch, we set out on a thrilling Jeep safari, venturing deep into the wilderness to spot elephants, leopards, sloth bears, crocodiles, and a variety of exotic bird species in their natural habitat.

Day 3 - Dambulla
Now that you’ve had time to get comfortable with your bike, it’s time to immerse yourself in Sri Lanka’s rich history and culture. Our morning ride takes us to Anuradhapura, the island’s ancient capital, where we’ll explore its sacred sites and storied past on two wheels.
From there, we ride deeper into the Cultural Triangle, stopping at Avukana to marvel at its 12-meter-tall Buddha statue, a breathtaking masterpiece carved from a single granite rock in the 5th century. This towering figure stands as a remarkable testament to ancient Sinhalese artistry and devotion.
Our journey then continues to Dambulla, where we visit the UNESCO-listed Dambulla Cave Temple. Dating back to the 1st century BCE, this extraordinary temple complex features a series of caves adorned with intricate murals and over 150 Buddha statues. Perched on a hilltop, it offers panoramic views of the countryside, making it the perfect place to reflect on the day’s adventures.

Day 4 - Polonnaruwa
Another thrilling day of exploration begins with a visit to the legendary Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks. Also known as the “Lion Rock,” this ancient fortress sits atop a towering 200-meter-high rock, boasting mesmerizing frescoes, sophisticated water gardens, and breathtaking panoramic views.
After descending from this awe-inspiring site, we’ll indulge in a traditional Sri Lankan lunch, a feast of authentic flavors served in a picturesque setting.
The adventure continues as we ride towards the ancient city of Polonnaruwa along a scenic paved road skirting Minneriya National Park. Keep an eye out for wildlife, as the park is home to large elephant herds, exotic birds, and diverse fauna.
In the afternoon, we explore the UNESCO-listed ruins of Polonnaruwa, a remarkably preserved medieval capital. Wander through the remnants of grand palaces, ancient stupas, and the awe-inspiring Gal Vihara, where magnificent Buddha statues are carved into solid rock. A guided walking tour will unveil the rich history and significance of this fascinating archaeological site.

Day 5 - Kandy
Today marks the first long ride of the tour, and it’s set to be an unforgettable journey! We kick off early, riding south through the scenic landscapes of Wasgamuwa National Park, a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. Keep an eye out for elephants, leopards, and vibrant birdlife as we traverse this untamed wilderness.
Heading west, we ascend into the breathtaking Knuckles Mountain Range, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Climbing up to 1,800 meters, we navigate rugged mountain roads surrounded by misty peaks, dense forests, and panoramic vistas. Though the terrain can be challenging at times, the sheer beauty of the surroundings makes every twist and turn worth it. We’ll take a well-earned lunch break here, allowing time to relax and soak in the serene mountain atmosphere.
By evening, we reach the outskirts of Kandy, Sri Lanka’s cultural capital. Home to the revered Temple of the Tooth Relic, this historic city is a vibrant blend of tradition and natural beauty. After visiting the temple, we’ll wrap up the day with a dinner in the city, reflecting on an epic day of riding.

Day 6 - Nuwara Eliya
Another exhilarating day of riding awaits as we set off early, heading towards the southern reaches of the Knuckles Mountain Range. The journey begins on a fast, scenic road before leading us into dense forests, sprawling tea plantations, and charming rural villages, offering an authentic glimpse into Sri Lanka’s countryside. We then rejoin the main road, gearing up for one of the most thrilling sections of the ride—the legendary 18 Bends. This twisting descent is an absolute treat for riders, offering adrenaline-pumping curves and stunning valley views.
After navigating the hairpin turns, we continue southward, ascending once again into the central highlands. Riding alongside the Victoria Reservoir, we carve through a network of winding roads, flanked by lush tea estates and misty mountain landscapes. Our journey culminates in Nuwara Eliya, often referred to as “Little England” for its colonial charm, cool climate, and picturesque setting. Nestled at 1,868 meters above sea level, this quaint hill town is surrounded by rolling tea plantations, serene lakes, and historic British-era buildings, making it a perfect place to unwind after an action-packed day on the road.

Day 13 - Colombo

Yes. You will need a valid motorcycle license from your home country and/or an International Driving Permit (IDP). You will also require a local endorsement the Automobile Association of Ceylon (AAC) which we will obtain for you before your arrival.

Generally, yes, provided you ride defensively. Traffic in Sri Lanka can be chaotic, with buses, tuk-tuks, pedestrians and wildlife crossing. What is the riding skill leve required?
The Timeless Sri Lanka tour is suitable for riders with moderate to advanced experience. Sri Lankan roads can be busy and unpredictable, so you should be comfortable handling a motorcycle in varying traffic and weather conditions. What are the road conditions like?
- Primary Roads: Generally in good condition, though you may encounter potholes or uneven surfaces.
- Mountain/Hill Country Roads: Winding and scenic, with occasional hairpin bends.
- Coastal & Rural Routes: Can be narrower, and watch out for pedestrians, livestock, or wildlife crossing.

How Much Riding Per Day Can I Expect?
Riding durations vary between 3–6 hours per day, depending on the route and planned stops at attractions. There will be regular breaks for sightseeing, meals, and photo opportunities.
What are the accommodations standards?
Depending on the tour you choose – Luxury or Budget – the accommodation is a selection of mid-range to high-quality hotels or boutique guesthouses, chosen for comfort and local charm. Expect clean rooms with private bathrooms. In more remote regions, options may be simpler but still vetted for cleanliness and safety.
What about food & dietary restrictions?
Sri Lankan cuisine is delicious and can be spicy. The tour typically includes breakfast, and you’ll find a range of local and international meal options for lunch and dinner. If you have special dietary needs (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal), inform the tour operator in advance so they can make necessary arrangements.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. Make sure your travel insurance explicitly covers motorcycle riding with 350cc engine capacity, including accidents and potential medical evacuation. Most standard policies don’t automatically include coverage for motorcycles over a certain engine size, so read the fine print or upgrade to an adventure rider policy.
What happens in case of accidents or medical emergencies?
In the event of an emergency, we rely on both public and private services to provide immediate assistance. We will promptly inform your emergency contact as well as your country’s embassy or consular mission. Please note that you are responsible for any expenses incurred in such situations; therefore, ensure your insurance policy covers motorcycle touring accidents. If necessary, Ride On will cover any initial expenses, which must then be reimbursed accordingly.
How Do I Book and What Is the Payment Process?
To confirm a booking, we require a 30% deposit. The balance is due three months before the tour date. Currently, we only accept bank transfer payments. Once you are ready to confirm, get in touch and we will send you an invoice with instructions.
What is your refund policy?
Deposits are generally non-refundable unless we have to cancel the tour. However, if you decide—or are unable—to join the tour for any reason, we will do our best to find a solution that works for both parties, whether by transferring the deposit to a different tour or, if possible, providing a partial refund.
