Why Explore Sri Lanka by Motorcycle?
Few destinations offer such an extraordinary variety of landscapes and experiences within such a compact area. Sri Lanka’s winding mountain roads, lush tea plantations, ancient kingdoms, tropical coastlines and wildlife-rich plains create the perfect setting for an unforgettable motorcycle adventure.
The real magic lies in the roads between the destinations. Beyond the main highways, a network of quiet country lanes, mountain bends and scenic backroads reveals a side of Sri Lanka that many visitors never experience. Ride through remote villages, past emerald rice fields and enormous reservoirs, or climb into the Central Highlands where cooler temperatures and sweeping views reward every turn.
But motorcycle touring in Sri Lanka is about much more than riding. Along the way, you’ll discover centuries-old temples, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, vibrant local markets and a remarkable culinary heritage. Stop for freshly prepared roadside snacks, enjoy traditional rice and curry, encounter wildlife and experience the warmth of Sri Lankan hospitality.
With relatively short distances between contrasting regions, there’s time to enjoy the journey rather than simply cover kilometres. It’s this combination of spectacular riding, cultural discoveries, authentic experiences and relaxation that makes Sri Lanka such a rewarding destination to explore on two wheels.

Do I need an International Driving Permit to ride a motorcycle in Sri Lanka?
Not necessarily. You can obtain a temporary Sri Lankan driving permit at Bandaranaike International Airport using your valid national motorcycle licence, provided it uses English characters. Otherwise, a certified translation is required.
Alternatively, you can obtain a local driving authorisation through the Automobile Association of Ceylon (AAC), which requires an International Driving Permit (IDP).
Whichever option you choose, your licence must cover the motorcycle category you intend to ride. If you join one of our guided tours, we’ll assist you with the necessary arrangements.
What riding experience is required?
Our regular tours are designed for confident riders with experience handling motorcycles on winding roads, hills and changing traffic conditions. Most routes are paved, although occasional uneven surfaces and short unpaved stretches are possible.
For experienced enthusiasts seeking more demanding riding, we also offer adventures such as the Highlands Loop.
Can I bring a passenger?

The route is very well curated. You can see that there is a lot of research and personal effort to make the route interesting and when it was necessary to change a little, they were able to include other activities… Extremely positive and very enjoyable.

Most amazing motorcycle adventure myself and my wife have ever had. It’s true about the buses. They do appear from nowhere. People are so friendly and the food spot on if not a little hot sometimes. Definitely will be returning.
